About our Farrier Courses Each 4-week session contains a total of 160 structured class hours. Courses are limited to 6 students per session to allow for plenty of personal instruction. Students are allowed additional practice time to further develop their skills. Prior experience in handling horses is helpful, but is not required. Students may enroll for more than four weeks if they so choose for an additional fee. Instruction begins with basic forging and consists of demonstrations, lectures and hands-on trimming, shoeing and hands-on training in forge work. Students will learn to make and apply basic, corrective, pathological and special breed shoes. Additional topics covered in the program are:
Student Expectations Prospective students should realize the need to be self motivated and relatively physically fit, and should come expecting hard work. Horseshoeing is very strenuous, but the positive aspects of the trade make up for the physical labor required. Diploma & Certification Students who successfully complete all aspects of our farrier training program and pass the practical and written tests will be awarded a diploma upon graduation. Students will also have the opportunity to take the certification tests required to earn certification from the Brotherhood of Working Farriers Association. Fees
Refund Policy For VISA and MasterCard Orders Only The initial $500.00 dollar deposit will be returned if the school office is notified in writing within thirty (30) days of the student's start date, minus a $150.00 dollar processing fee. There will be no refunds once class has started. What you need to furnish:
Students who don't want to travel with tools can purchase the rasps, handles, and hoof knife at Shur shod The following items will be provided by Shur Shod, though students may bring their own if the wish
